About MDPC
Malaysia Deepwater Production Contractors (MDPC), founded in 2004 and based in Kuala Lumpur, is a leading provider of Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) solutions for Malaysia’s energy sector.
Serving major clients such as Murphy Oil and PTTEP, MDPC has operated the FPSO Kikeh – one of Malaysia’s largest deepwater assets, offshore Sabah – since 2009, with a firm commitment to safety, reliability and innovation.
The Challenge
MDPC faced the critical challenge of achieving complete independence from its former parent company, SBM Offshore:
- Remove dependencies – eliminate every technical and operational link, notably those tied to the Kikeh facility.
- Secure the transition – move to a fully autonomous environment without compromising security or continuity.
- Own the full stack – manage systems, processes and assets with no reliance on legacy infrastructure.
- Build for growth – establish a robust foundation for future growth and operational excellence.
In short, MDPC needed to stand fully on its own – independent, secure, and ready to scale.
The Solution
To ensure a smooth transition to full operational independence, MDPC implemented a comprehensive, multi-phased solution addressing every aspect of the separation.
- New licences – generation and deployment of new vessel and replicator licences under MDPC’s ownership.
- On-site workshop – reviewing system usage, identifying customisations, and defining a clear plan of action together.
- Full independence – adjustments and fixes to the replicator to remove every remaining dependency.
- Branding and enablement – updated branding (incl. new logos on all purchase orders) plus AMOS knowledge sharing for the team.
